The first South Africans were the Khoi and the San.

- The Khoi were cattle herders.

- The San were hunter gatherers.

- The Khoi and the San lived in the country long before any other people came.

- Today don’t they exist anymore.

- The next group of peoples who came to South Africa was the Africans.

They came from Central Africa 2000 years ago, and settled down as farmers in big villages.

There are two groups of white South Africans, the Boers and the English:

- The Boers came from Holland in 1652.

- The English arrived in 1795.

Because of the Boers and the English, many South African small towns and parts of big cities look like towns in Holland or England.

Indians:

- The Indians came in the 19th century from India to work on the sugar farms.
