I´ve had the most amazing and interesting trip to South Africa with my father. I´m half South African and half Danish but I didn´t know the culture and the history of South Africa very well, until I went to my father’s incredible birthplace. It was a time where my heart opened to different cultures and ways of living.
South Africa has both dark and a light full history. Back in time, there was a lot of race separation, and oppression in the population. Especially Black people were treated unfair by the white people. The discrimination is called Apartheid. South Africa had some laws about the Apartheid, for example, marriage between black and white was forbidden. A Freedom fighter called Nilsson Mandela changed everything and the black people got the same rights as the White people had. I didn´t know about the apartheid until my father took me to The Apartheid Museum. The museum made me realize a lot of things about how our world works and it also made me reflect to the actions. It was really interesting and scarring seeing how the black people were treated, but it will be a memory that I´ll never forget.
One of the things that got me so surprised that my eyes almost jumped out of my face was the beautiful, tropical and colorful landscapes. There´s big mountains and fertile soil filled with so many different plants. One of the biggest mountains that I´ve ever seen must be the Table Top Mountain. We took a cableway and it was really exciting seeing the unbelievably big mountain moving slowly away from you.
