English essay – Obesity - The American Epidemic [NAVN A]. 9.b
ore and more people worldwide are getting obese, or rather said, “fat”. ----------------------Especially in the U.S. where 55 percent of American adults and more than 13 percent of American youngsters, are overweight. The state with the most obese population in the U.S, is Mississippi, and second comes Texas. There is many reasons for their obesity, one of them is because of the giant sizes their meals have, like their supersize beverages, a supersize beverage can contain up to 2 litres of soda. Some of the american cars has even a cupholder for the giant supersize beverages, it is unbelievable how addicted they are to the fastfood. But it’s not always for only eating some gets obese, sometimes they inherit the genes from their parents which make them obese or overweight. But sometimes it can just be that the obesity runs in the families, but just how much is due to genes is hard to determine. Many families eat the same foods, have the same habits (like snacking in front of the TV), and tend to think alike when it comes to weight issues (like urging children to eat a lot at dinner so they can grow "big and strong"). All of these situations can contribute to weight gain, so it can be difficult to figure out if a person is born with a tendency to be obese or overweight or learns eating and exercise habits that lead to weight gain. In most cases, weight problems arise from a combination of habits and genetic factors. Sometimes emotions can fuel obesity as well. People tend to eat more when they are upset, anxious, sad, stressed out, or even bored. Then after they eat too much, they may feel bad about it and eat more to deal with those bad feelings. -----------------In the movie, “Super Size Me” from 2004, where Morgan Spurlock, which is the directer and starring in the movie, is following a 30-day time period on eating McDonald’s fastfood meals 3 times a day, morning, lunch and dinner. As the days went by, Morgan got more and more addicted to the food and if he had not eaten McDonald’s for long, he would get dizzy and ill. And when he ate a meal from McDonald’s he would get better again. Before the experiment Morgan was a vegan, and when his experiment was over he couldn’t be a vegan again, he was too addicted to the fastfood. ----------------------------------------------- Actually that movie showed how dangerous it can be to eat too much fastfood and it was a great proof to sue the McDonald’s company for their food getting them fat, but after the movie, a law was declared, and it was now impossible to sue any restaurant for their food, cause we have a choice to not go visit the restaurant and eat their food, but for some, it is too hard to make that choice. But because of the movie, people saw how bad fastfood can be for your health, so they got rit of all supersize meals, but instead McDonald’s made an “Adult HappyMeal” which almost is as big as the original supersize meal. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------any people come to Houstan in Texas cause they are very famous for their, “All You Can Eat” offers, but its only if you can eat a giant steak or beef of several pounds. Actually many people, mostly men, has done that. I have seen a guy on TV who ate free every day, because he always could eat the massive steak or beef. But he got kicked out of several restaurants cause he always ate for free, he was also very stout. .....................................................................................................There has been made many things to get you to lose your weight, like a sauna belt and pads which gives you electric shocks in you muscles to train them, but none of those things help, the only thing that helps, of my own opinion, is eating more healthy and work out in like a trainingcenter.
