The book Bend it like Beckham it written by Narinder Dhami.

Bend it like Beckham is a about an Indian girl called Jess, she loves football and she is really good at it. Her biggest idol is David Beckham, she has her walls filled up with his shirts and posters. She plays football with the boys in the park, every time she has the opportunity. She is kind of an active girl who loves sports, but with her older sister it is quite different. She is called Pinky and that tells pretty well how she is. She is upset with boys, she think that the outside is the most important. Pinky is getting married, so Jess has to go shopping for cloth to the wedding, with her sister. Jess hates to shop. When they are out shopping they meet some friends of the family Tony and his mom. Jess and Tony are good friends.

Later Jess walks through the park with some grocery for her mother, and the boys are playing, she has to hurry but she decides to play a quick match. She gets the ball and dribbles past all the boys until she gets fouled, she takes the ball up and put in the groin on one of the boys and runs home. Her mother is mad at her because she has dirt stains on her pants. She thinks it is more important that she learns how to cook Indian meals. One day in the park when she is playing football with her friends, her cousins is watching them from a bench. They are calling her over because they want to know who the boy with the six-pack is. She says something about Tony being Jess’ boyfriend, she gets a little irritated and calls them bitches. They are true copies of her sister so it is not a lie. From another bench there is a girl called Jules. She is watching them play too. Jess makes another good run and scores, and then Jules went over to Jess and told her to try out for their team. Jess where surprised and ask if she was good enough. She went training and the trainer Joe was skeptical of her skills before the training starts, as she did not have any boots. But he got a whole new sight at her, after the training. He asks if her parents were fine with her playing, she answered that they were. But she had not told them, and she had no plans of doing it. Joe tells her that she can come and play again. After training she talks with Jules. Jules want to go to USA to play professional; Jess did not even know that it was possible for a woman to play as a pro.
