'Bend It Like Beckham' plot summary

Jess Bhamra (Parminder K. Nagra) is an Indian girl living in London with her parents (Anupam Kher & Shaheen Khan) and older sister, Pinky (Archie Panjabi.) She dreams of becoming a big soccer star like her idol, David Beckham. She’s very good at soccer, but it doesn’t matter, because her conservative parents don't think it's right for her. They want her to be more like her sister and find a nice Indian boy to marry and cook for (something Pinky will be doing herself in a few weeks.) One day, a British girl named Jules Paxton (Keira Knightley) sees Jess playing in the park with her friends, including Tony (Ameet Chana), a boy her parents think is the perfect one for her to marry. Jules plays for a local all-girls team and talks her coach, an Irishman named Joe (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers), into letting Jess try out for the team. Jess isn’t the only one having problems with her parents. Jules wants to play professionally in America, which is just fine with her dad, Alan (Frank Harper), but her mom, Paula (Juliet Stevenson), isn’t too hip on the idea, because she thinks that soccer is not feminine enough (as she says, “Just remember, there's a reason why Sporty Spice is the only one without a fellow!”) As Jess and Jules become the two top players on the team, they become best friends. This becomes a problem for a couple of reasons. Since Jules is so tomboyish, yet close to Jess, Paula assumes her daughter is a lesbian, and Jess is her girlfriend. One of her bits of proof is that she thinks she overhears a lover’s spat one afternoon between Jules and Jess. In reality, they were both fighting over their affections for Joe, who himself seems to be falling for Jess. With the conflict over Joe and the stress of having to deceive her parents in order to play soccer, Jess must decide whether to keep pursuing her dream or honor her parents’ wishes.Main characters:Jess: An indian school girl, that have that one dream, to bend it like Beckham. But her parents doesn’t want her to play football. They want her to honor the family, because her mother, seems it is like a ‘’Joke’’ that she show her legs in the public.Her talent in football, got spotted by Jules, a girl who plays in London’s official club, who then ask Jess, if she want to join the football team. The reason why her mother, doesn’t want her to show her legs, is because of an scar that she got because of some HOT water that felt down over her.Joe:Joe, is the football-trainer for the London club, that Jess and Jules plays in.He is a hardworking, and respectful trainer, and does show loyalty for all on the team. He was also himself, at football-talent, but that talent was gone because of an injury when he was younger.Also because of his trainer-talent, he had let the team, to great victory’s, and cup in other country’s.Jules: One of Jess’s good friends, and teammate.She got one of the biggest talent, and is a player, a lot of clubs want.Jules and Jess, came up in bug argument together, because of Joe. Jules like Joe a lot, and one day when the were in Germany, in a cup, and went out to party, after a match, Joe and Jess, almost kissed, but Jess pulled away, because of her parents, just will give her problems. But Jules saw it, and became extremely mad at Jess.Pinky:Lets just say, she is a typical example on a BITCH.She only care about herself, and the only thing on her mind, is her god damn wedding, that Jess, doesn’t give a cake about..Her lover, is not like that. He more ‘’chill’’.
