AWALK TO REMEMBER, written by Nicholas Sparks, is a fascinating book of a young, first love and the choices and steps a person will take to provide another person with happiness. The story is somewhat traditional, filled with clichés, but there is much more to the story than meets the eye. Landon and Jamie come from different backgrounds and had nothing to do with each other until an incident where Landon, due to the fact he has just broken up with his girlfriend, needs a date and therefore pulls out his yearbook and scans the pages for someone available. He finally decides on Jamie Sullivan, the schools outcast, knowing that no one will ask her to dance. Jamie is the reverend’s daughter and truly dedicated to religion as well. This does not contribute to her social life in any way, yet her dreams and beliefs seem to be enough for her. Against all odds, they fall in love which is the beginning of a short, but unforgettable romance. The turning point of the story lies within Jamie’s secret which she has kept from Landon. She is suffering from terminal leukemia and knows for a fact that she does not have many days left. This, however, does not stop Landon marrying her and fulfill her last and greatest wish.
