The film is based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks telling the love story between two teenagers, who fall in love against all odds. Landon is the popular boy at school, and Jamie is the priest’s daughter. Jamie is one of the students, who Landon and his friends bully regularly, but Jamie doesn’t care. After a hideous accident Landon is forced to do community work and take part in the school play. This is where Landon is introduced to Jamie and falls deeply in love with her, even though she told him not to. Jamie has an incurable disease and hasn’t got much time left. Jamie lives a short but happy life with Landon and they experience true love together.
The theme of love which is showed in this film is true love. Landon and Jamie are two total opposites, but they manage to work out their differences out and live good lives together. Landon and Jamie’s relationship shows, that no matter how different they are. They manage to go against everybody’s expectations. Landon gives up his old life and friends to be with Jamie which shows huge amounts of determination from his side. Jamie is willing to give Landon a chance, even though she is not very fond of his personality in the beginning. Jamie changes Landon’s view on life and this is shown by a quote in the end of the movie where Landon says: “Jamie saved my life. She taught me everything about life, hope and the long journey ahead. I will always miss her, but her love is like the wind; I can not see it, but I can feel it” This shows Landon’s eternal love for Jamie.
