There are different types of diabetes which are mentioned below, but I write just about to main type that are insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (type I) and non insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type II). Another types are as diabetes insipidus (the cause is deficiency of antidiuretic hormone vasopressin) and gestational diabetes, which presents during pregnancy and in the most cases disappear after delivery. This can cause pre-eclampsia in mother and complications with baby. But now adages the pregnant is constantly being checked and observed under pregnancy.
Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome characterized by chronic hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar level) that is due to relative insulin deficiency, or resistance or both.
Type I diabetes
About 20,000 have type I diabetes in Denmark and it presents most commonly in childhood and under age 30 years, but can present at any age.
There are some genetic and environmental factors that play a role for exposing an individual to diabetes.
Type I is caused by destruction of insulin producing B-cells in pancreas. Pancreas is the organ that lies in the abdomen and has several functions, one of them is to produce insulin, a key hormone in storage and releasing chemical energy available from food.
There are many reason which cause damage to the pancreas, but the most common cause in type I diabetes is auto-immune system, means is the body’s own immune system which appear to turn against itself.
