It was a sunny day on the beach. Almost 30 degrees warm. The day began like every other day, but later something unusual happened.
I am a lifeguard, and I was sitting in my chair, and watched the beach. There were many people. Children were playing in the water with their moms and dads, and others played beach volley.
About three o’clock a girl suddenly screamed, while she pointed on the sea: “look! The water is pulling back! I think a tsunami is coming!” I looked out, and saw the sea bed was dry, and the water was pulling back! I had learned that water, who withdraw, was a sign of a tsunami. And indeed, it was a tsunami. A high wave approached the beach, while people screamed, and ran for life to higher ground. I also ran as fast as I could. I saw that some of the people didn’t make it. They’ve got swallowed by the wave. It was horrible to watch.
Later some of us, who had survived, listened to the radio. The speaker said: “a tsunami hit West Beach 3.15 pm today. It was a 7 meter high tsunami, which caused a lot of damage, and 8 people died. Many manage to get away, because of a girl who saw the water withdraw, and warned people on the beach……” I turned of the radio and thought of the girl. I was really grateful. She had saved my life.
