What is gossip? Sharing information about other people? Discussions of personal relationships and experiences; who is doing what with whom, who is “in” and who is “out” and why, how to deal with difficult social situations, the behaviour and relationships of friends-family and celebrities, our own problems with lovers- family-friends-colleagues and neighbours, the everyday social life - in one word, gossip. I do believe that it isn’t wrong to share truthful things with those who have a right to the information. But when it isn’t shared with the right people, it is gossip, and then it has become a thing that easily can ruin lives:

-“I am nobody’s friend”

But I can honestly say that before I read this poem; I have never given this a lot of thought. Gossip has always been there, always been a part of my life and millions of other peoples lives. But how big a problem is it? And is it a problem? If you want to put gossip, into a category of good or evil. Which category is it? I would probably say that gossip is more evil than good without hesitating. But is that true? I really don’t know. But either way, I believe that gossip was made for our own amusement. Maybe I’m wrong, but I have given this a lot of thought, and it is my conclusion that many years ago “we” – meaning the human kind, was getting bored. It is true that gossip always has been a part of my life. And I do believe that it has existed for many, many years. But not forever. Gossip is a “man-made” thing. You can hear it in the poem: “Remember, before you repeat a story, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it fair?”
