The title of the story is the dutiful daughter and it’s written by the Indian writer Saadat Hasan Manto. The story was released in 1990 in English, but were originally released in 1948, in Urdu which was the official language in Pakistan and India at that time. The genre is a short story, because the story is short. It’s a short story because there are not many people who we know of, it’s mainly the girl who is escaping and the old woman. We follow this one girl who is escaping from all the affairs that are happening in that specific time phrase. Saadat Hasan Manto is a Pakistani shot story writer, he eventually released his collection of short stories called “Kingdom’s End” where “The Dutiful Daughter” is included.

The text is written as a first-person narrator, that means we only know the inner thoughts of the main character, while we only know about minor characters actions and sayings. But the text kind of have two narrator perspectives, the second tells us about the event that generally happened in India in 1948. This kind of narrator is squared, that means he expresses his own thoughts about the things that happened.
