The poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson, is right for me in some ways. He is right about the importance of having a good laugh. To win respect of intelligent people, is a matter of your interests. I think, that the time when the poem was written, it was important to be talking to clever persons, often doctors or lawyers, to show that you had status. Now you can talk in a bad language, and people do still respect you.
It is also important to find your real friends in life. Yes, maybe you are having fun with some of them, but when you need help, or someone to talk with, then you will find your real friends. It is always good to have a real friend to stick with through life, although it might not be necessary for everybody. It is also important to learn to stand on your own. Some people loves not each other for what they have done, but are judging them on their looks. That is wrong but it might be one of the things no one can make better.
The last of the poem is about, making a difference before you die. This is what your life is about. Make the world a better place to live, and you will receive nothing in return. This is the status for many people around the world, trying to do a difference. Some people gets highlighted, and in a second everybody knows they have done a difference, but what about the average man or female? They do a difference, but no one except for the helped people will thank them. This is the truth as I see it right now.
