I chose this topic because I believe it is an intriguing and horrific story that needs more people knowing. The fact that someone would casually enter a school for 6-year-olds and murder anyone he can get In contact with is messed up.

Murderers background

His name was Adam Lanza and he was 20 years old. He lived with his mother, Nancy Lanza, in Newtown, 5 miles from the elementary school. He had access to dozens of firearms through his mother, who was a gun enthusiast. He attended the Sandy Hook Elementary School for four and a half years, until he began at Newtown Middle School in 2004. According to his mother, he was wracked by anxiety and all the movement and noise in his classroom were stimulating him. His teachers described him as intelligent but nervous and fidgety. At the age of 13, Lanza was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome (Difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication). At 14, he was also diagnosed with OCD, which caused him to have coercive actions, like changing his socks twenty times a day, frequently washing his hands, and he would use a box of tissues in a day because he could not touch a doorknob with his bare hand. He was obviously a germaphobe. His father also suspected that he had undiagnosed schizophrenia in addition to his other conditions.
