Ku Klux Klan Started after the civil war between north and south states in America. When the war was over in 1865 and the south states had lost, general Nathan Bedford Forrest and 5 other officers started a clan. They had to find a good name for the clan. They decided that it should have something to do with a circle, because they had a very good friendship. The first name was “The knights of Kyklos”, because Kyklos means a circle and symbolize friendship. But instead they changed Kyklos with Klux and clan. But they changed out the C with a K just because it sounded better. And that was why they are called Ku Klux Klan or KKK.
After a couple of years the KKK clan was growing to about 500.000 members. They started to scare the black people. But the bother and scaring evolved into murders. They started to kill the black people!
In 1871 a law against all clan terror was made. Nut anyway the clan grew to 5 million members all over the world, and KKK had ad incomes over 25 million Dollars.
Then Martin Luther King started his fight again racism and Ku Klux Klan. He made a lot speeches and marches and the members in KKK began to understand the black people. The members in KKK started leaving the clan. From about 5 million members KKK was going down to about 30.000 members.
