Metallica In 1981 drummer Lars Ulrich sent an advertisement into the newspaper: `` The Recycler´´. Guitarist James Hetfield read that paper then he needed a band. He saw the paper and contacted Lars. They played for a while, but James was not impressed over Lars’ drum play, but he went better after some time. They needed a bass player and James best friend Ron Mcovney couldn’t play the bass.
