The short story is about two Jewish women who live in America. And it takes place in the 19th century. In that time there were a lot of immigrants from Europe to USA. Katie is one of the two women and she is kind of taking the new culture and all that in to her new life in America, the other women Leah is kind of old fashion, because she is not taking the American culture in like the other woman Katie.

Grand Street in New York, in a Jewish neighborhood, it is important because she celebrates Christmas.

Something is changing because the Jews are celebrating Christmas, the clashes of different religions and cultures. The whole story is a debate, conversations, dialogue, but nothing is really happening.

Characterize:

Katie: is short for Catharine (abbreviation=forkortelse) Hard name – Katie’s personalities harder. Katie has adopted the American lifestyle. Elaborated hat – fashionable

Leah: Is a Jewish name, soft name – personality is softer than Katie’s. Leah has hold on to the traditional lifestyle. Leah wears a wig. A wig = a Jewish tradition for married women.
