On January 1, 1983, it was officially published that the internet was born. This would soon after become the biggest ever influential change for information technology (IT). Henceforth, there would be established many changes to the way we communicate and interact with each other in our daily lives. As time went on, it became a necessity for the individual to make use of the internet, not only in the workplace but also at home and in public areas. All information would now exist inside the internet, which made it very easy for the user to find whatever information they needed. Although it was a smart and simple idea at the time, many started to consume huge amounts of information, resulting in their attention towards other things faltering to a certain extent. In “Innocence lost: what did you do before the internet?” by Leah McLaren, time is sent back to the ’70s. This was the last decade before your childhood would become filled with the internet. She remembers those times as young, where the internet had yet to be created. Here she reflects upon how it has changed the way kids now grow up. She also wonders what the world will look like in the future, as everyone will now be born surrounded by technology.
