Is it a good idea for immigrants to hold on to their own language and cultural traditions once they have settled in a new country?
It is more negative than positive when immigrants hold on to their language and traditions.
If the immigrants are talking a language that most people in the country can’t understand, than they can’t communicate and be civil with one another.
Immigrants are corroding the unifying values of the country when they keep holding on to their language and traditions. It will do those more good than harm to learn about other traditions and languages.
Take the Muslims in Denmark for an example. The life in another country is not the same as it was in their homeland even if they are surrounded by friends, families and cultural associations. Living away from one's own country can be so difficult, that many often experience culture shock. But most of them are not supportive of the values in Denmark. And when one makes the choice to immigrate to another country, they have to change and adapt to this country. But they demand thing by their religion instead of appreciating that Denmark is letting them live a better life. They also have many children, which makes the majority of them bigger. By this many people are afraid, that the immigrants will ruin their values.
