The lack of cultural integration, that is, the problem that in many western Countries immigrants do not adapt to the foreing culture, is well known.

The result of the problem is often ghettos, and some social or cultural distance between the native population and the immigrants. What can we do about this problem?

Every country has a culture and it´s important to that culture, that the people maintain it. So I think immigrants need to adapt to the culture in the country they settle in. I also think that adapting is a small price to pay for a fresh start, in a land such as Denmark in EU.

Of course adapting will be hard. There are laws and other social standards, but the immigrants can still maintain their old traditions at home.

Adapting (integration) especially in small countries like Denmark, is very important, simply because the population is so small and more homogenous. Immigrants become very fast outsiders and prejudices against them can be cruel. For example, it can be impossible to rent an apartment, because people think that you can´t maintain the place. Simply because you are an “outsider”.

On the other hand, different cultures in a Country can also be a good think, so I don’t think that immigrants totally should forget about their traditions. For example, what they eat. In Copenhagen we have insanely many pizza and kebab places. They wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for immigrants moving to Denmark, and starting a restaurant where you can eat food from their own culture.
