Moving half way across the world from one continent to another can be very hard. You can feel very insecure and uncertain. The woman named Lata in the story: “Dusk Over Atlantic Wharf” experiences many troubles by moving from India to Wales. She has to learn a brand new language, and deal with an unknown culture. I know it from myself because I am born and raised in Denmark, but originally I am from Syria, and that is why I know the feeling of moving back and forth between two different cultures and sometimes feeling lost.
The plot takes place in Cardiff, Wales, where Lata and Anuj live together in an apartment as immigrants from India. They have recently married and now Lata is focusing on trying to make their marriage work and she is facing a hard time trying to integrate in the new place she has come. Anuj has lived in England for 5 years and 8 months more than Lata has, and it is Lata’s father who has arranged the wedding between them because, Lata’s dad thought she would have a better life in Wales. Through the story we are also informed that Anuj and Lata is watching a Bollywood movie together and Lata is really excited but when the movie ends she feels lost again.
