The main character is a middle-aged woman, who we do not know by name. She was working as a cashier at a supermarket in a town called Perry. Her marriage was broken up, and afterwards her two grown boys moved out from home. The only one left with her was her German shepherd, Ollie. She was feeling very alone and she felt like no one needed her anymore. Just Ollie. That was why she became obsessive about a little girls murder, which she read about in the newspaper. The murderer, James Wade confessed that he had buried the girl somewhere west of Kingsville. She was going to find that girl. That was her call. She even changed her shifts at work, so that she could get more out of the daylight and look for her. Even when she twisted her ankle, she was out looking for her. Times got by and she almost felt like she was going crazy. Her boys told her to stop looking for the girl, because it was meaningless. She did not even knew her, or her family. She just did not had anything else to do in life, since her family moved out. Two and a half year, and she was still looking.
