Whose life is it anyway is a play written by Brian Clark. The story takes place in a hospital where Ken Harrison is a paralyzed patient. It’s about Ken and his battle to end his own life. The problem is that he is incapable of committing suicide so Ken turns to euthanasia. The hospital is against this they can’t let consciousness person die.
Ken Harrison is an artist who makes sculptors. One day Ken is involved in a car accident and gets paralyzed from the neck and down. He was then brought to a hospital right after the accident where Dr. Emerson managed to save Ken from dying.
After the accident the only thing Ken has got left is his consciousness. After realizing he is paralyzed for lifetime, Ken decides life isn’t worth living anymore.
In order to show Ken the abilities he will have in his future life, Mrs. Boyle, a social worker, is sent to Ken. She tries to make Ken think of his disabilities in a more optimistic way, but Ken gets very upset and is more convinced than ever that he doesn’t want to go on living this way.
Dr. Emerson believes that Ken is suffering from depression. So Dr. Emerson decides to treat Ken with tranquillizers because of the depression. But it’s against Kens own free will. Ken doesn’t want the tranquilizers, because the only thing he has got left is his consciousness and he wants to keep his consciousness clear.
