The young people in the area near the Harlem River had a great time yesterday, shoveling the last of the snow into a manhole. Salvatore at 16 years old had got the job at the rim. His friends were pulling up a pile of slush close to him. Keeping an eye on the hole, he shoveled the slush into the sewer.
Suddenly something was moving 10 feet down in the sewer, were the manhole and the pipe line fit together. Salvatore got down on his knees to see what the trouble was.
What he saw down in the dark sewer almost scared him so much that he got overbalance and fall down in the icy hole. There was something black down in the sewer, breaking through the ice blockade. Salvatore´s eyes went big, but he managed to get on his feet and call his friends “seriously it´s an alligator” he shouted loudly

Confirmed what Salvatore had seen. Then suddenly there were a lot of people at the middle of the street with their heads bent over the manhole. The animal Squelched down in the cold water, and tried to get free. The boys decided to help the animal and a group of people were sent to 441 East 123d street.
