Analyse af filmen 'This is England'

The film is about a boy named Shaun, who gets bullied because of his flares pants. When he meets a group of some older tough guys, they turn out to be very friendly to Shaun, and they become friends. They introduce Shaun to parties, girls, and a new way of dressing. Subsequently they introduce Shaun to Combo, who is an older, obviously racist and has just returned from prison. Combo destroys the friendship in Shaun’s group, and now Shaun unwittingly volunteers to be a part of Combo’s gang. From now on, Shaun’s life become a lot more violent than before, and he sees a lot more in record time, that a boy at his age, absolutely should not have seen.

The film takes place in Britain, in the summer of 1983 and this is an important historical period for Britain. The early eighties were marked by the dissatisfaction from the population, by civil strikes and by smaller wars, as the Falkland’s war. The film gives a clear picture, of how it was to be a child in Britain in those years. And the film shows that it was hard to be poor in the eighties, and that people didn’t lived very nice.
