På anden øvelsesdag vurderede vi reaktionen som færdig, da metallet var forsvundet. Vi observerede et sort stof i blandingen og konkluderede, at dette måtte være carbon, da stål hovedsageligt består af carbon og jern. Et andet faktum som understøtter denne konklusion er, at ingen hydrogen boblede op. Dette stemmer overens med, at det sorte stof i blandingen var carbon, da det har elektronegativitet højere end hydrogens og derfor ikke reagerer med oxonium ionerne.
