The story is a tale about family conflicts and moving to a new country. – Somewhere in Africa.
The themes I’d like to emphasize in this essay include Gavin’s fantasies and how they influence his family relationships, the title, and the ending.
In the beginning of the story Gavin seems to be like any other regular boy, but then some of his darker fantasies get published to the reader. Gavin thinks a lot about his family and how he wishes, his sister, Amanda, would die in a car crash or worse. Because he thinks she has changes in a bad way. Even though Gavin knows how wrong of him it is to have these thoughts about his family, they keep coming back in his mind. At first Gavin only thinks of how a life without his sister would be. His mind continues into more darkness as he thinks about how life would be without his sister and his dad, who died in a horrible car crash in his fantasy – And he thinks it could be pretty great, but then he feels guilty by having these thoughts.
In the dream he comforts his mother, takes care of her and moves back to England with her.
