The story is about a little girl called Amina. She‘s religion is Muslims. Her mother and father own a grocery store, where they have groceries, Christmas cards and much more. The mother and father are working from the morning to night while in the evenings Amina are watching TV. In school Amina and her classmates have to make a drawing of the virgin Maria and he child Jesus. The teacher lie to Amina when she said Amina’s drawing is so beautiful, but it is apparently too beautiful to hang on the wall in the classroom. The teacher told Amina to take her drawing with home to show her mother. The mother looks at the drawing, and throws it away. After her mother have throw the drawing away, she take a day off start to drawing with Amina. When Amina returns to school again, she is being pushed to draw drawings of people by the teacher.
Essay
Amina is a little Muslim girl who lives with her mother and father in a room at the back of the shop that they own. She is too young to be aware of integration problems and racial segregation. I don’t think that she realises that her drawing of mother Mary is different than the other kids’. But she is, she has dark skin, and that is why the teacher doesn’t want to hang it on the wall, but the second time Amina draws mother Mary and the baby Jesus, her teacher decides to put it on the wall anyway.
