In the decade 2000 has mainstream music been overtaken by hip-hop and rap music. In the last few years has music repeatedly been criticized for its sexual lyrics and violent themes. But still the music industry has shown to have a great contrast in styles, themes and personal taste. The popularity of hip-hop music was by musicians like Usher, Outcast and Jay Z. These styles are a combination of hip-hop and rap. In the decade 2000 was hip-hop one of the most popular styles. Since 2000, there has also been an explosion in musicals. Finally the present music enjoys many musicians artist that stood the test of time. Some of them were Madonna, Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Other pop artist such as Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears are still continuing to make the headlines today. The last few years has also seen a great deal of popularity in the mainstream pop music genre due to the television show American Idol. We have also seen popularity in songs that criticize the government and the president. Music has always followed a pattern in a culture and one genre of music is soon replaced by another in terms of popularity and record sales. Popular musicians can often build a fan base that will continue to bye their albums and listen to their songs, while other just is a “one hit.”
