Music lives in us all, in our bodies and in such amazing many shapes. I walked home from school one Thursday, listening to Fredryk Chopin’s Prelude op.25 nr. 15 regndråpe (raindrop), which is very gloomy and kind of dark in its use of tones.
Then I felt sad and depressed, started thinking negative thoughts. Afterwards I was confused, because there had been nothing wrong with my day at all, I was happy and there was no reason for me to be sad or angry.
That was the power of music that infected me.
In one way.
Music affects your mood a lot. I’m not talking about mood swings, but a tendency of doing what you are been told to do. The music tells you, in its one language, how to make your next step for example, or how to react at good or bad news.
It can also affect a whole audience in the cinema. How many times haven’t you sat a Saturday night and cried over Terminator 2, where Arnold Schwarzenegger is standing opposite a choice of doing the right thing or keep destroying as he was made to do? I thought so. That’s just obedience, you know.
A movie does that a lot. They want us to feel like the person I the scene does, so that we can sort of be a part of this, and understand the message the director tries to tell us.
