The story is about, a black slave, who was named Tom, bought by the family Shelby, for many years ago. He is married to a head cook in the Shelby’s house, she is called Chloe, and they have two children.
Eliza and her husband George Harris are two slaves. Eliza is a beautiful young light-skinned woman. She is the maid for Mrs. Shelby. But her husband is a young mulatto slave, who works in another farm from the same area. Their baby boy lives with her mother Eliza in Mr. and Mrs. Shelby house. His name is Harry.
Mr. and Mrs. Shelby are very kind persons, and they loves theirs slaves. George Shelby, theirs son, loves them too.
Unfortunately had Mr. Shelby some financial difficulties and was forced to sell Tom and the little baby Harry. Eliza had heard the conversation between the trader and Mr. Shelby about the selling her son and Tom.
