William H. Bonnie was born on the 17th of September 1859 in New York. His father died and his mother Kathrin, who was now alone with two boys. His mother met a guy called William Antrim. They moved to Wichita, but later they moved to Silver City. Then William H. Bonnie couldn’t have the same name as his father, so he used his middle name Henry, and was called Henry Antrim. His mother died in 1874 while his stepfather William Antrim left the family. It was then that Henry appropriated the nickname Billy the Kid. Byname the Kid came to his young age, and very lanky appearance. Henry was good in school but after his mother’s dead, he lost the interest of the school. He moved in with Mrs Sarah Brown and her family. He learned that it was stupid, to work hard for the money. Then he started stealing butter and sells it.

His career

In 1875 Billy was arrested for having participated, together with Sombrero Jack in a robbery at a Chinese laundry. He managed to flee from the hall by climbing up into the chimney. Four years later he was Billy the Kid. He fled to Arizona and learned everything about being a cowboy. Billy joined a small group of thieves. His best friend in the group was John Mackie. They began and steal horses which they sold to the ranch far away. He stole a horse from Sergeant Lewis Hartmann. Billy the Kid was captured and imprisoned. But he escaped even though he had iron shackles on. One day Billy the Kid and his entire group came of criminals to Fort Sumner where they danced, and slept in an old building. But Pat Garret had heard about it and would lure them into a trap. They came back to Fort Sumner in a snowstorm. Garrets men opened fire on them but Billy the Kid was not among them, all escaped except one of his best friends Tim O'Folliard. Billy was caught in a stone hut of Garret. He was sent to Mesilla and went to jail. He should be hanged the 13th of April 1881. He was moved to Lincoln Country Courthouse. He had shackles and handcuffs. He was beaten by guards when there were no other others were present. One day when there was only one guard he asked to get out on the outdoor toilet. A friend had put a gun there. He took it and shot the guard. The other guard shot him also when he came. Billy spent a pickaxe to break the shackles. He sat on a horse and rode away.
