artin Luther King was born in Atlanta Georgia. His father was minister of the Ebenezer Baptist Church. King’s mother and father taught their children to treat all people with respect, it was an important discipline for this family. When King grew up, he noticed that “black” people and white people were treated very different. He also knew that there were some unacceptable laws which were to separate the “black” people away from the white people.

When King was in college, he decided to be a minister like his father.( Martin Luther King would now be addressed as “Dr.King”.) In the college he met a young woman named Coretta Scott and they would eventually marry. In 1954 Dr.King moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he got the job of pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.

On December 1st, 1995 the arrest of Mrs. Rosa Parks was the first link to get Dr.King involved in the civil rights movement. Dr.King and other African-American population felt that they need to do something! The African-American began to boycott the bus by walking and driving instead. In fact Dr. King was very inspired by Gandhi’s “peaceful revolution”. Dr. King wanted to prove that peaceful mass action could bring about change.
