The short story ”Sorry for Disturbing you” by Richard Knight is a short story about how you deal with the choices in your life. The story is about an old sick Man, who suddenly knocks on the door, at Ian’s house. The house is where the Man’s daugther lives some years earlier. At first Ian wonder what is going on, it ends up with Ian invites him in. In this essay I will analyse and interpret the old Man, and discuss his situation in life. In the end I will make a discussion to put my interpretation into perspective, with a painting and a poem.
The man in this short story is an old sick man who drinks too much. His daugther, who he has no contact with, won’t acknowledged him because of his alcohol problem. Her mother, also his ex-wife, won’t eider acknowledge him. Because of that, he had become an old, sick and very lonely Man. You could say, that it is his own fault, and that could be true. Ian, the man who lives in the house, calls the earlier owner of the house, because the Man told him that he knows them. But when he calls, the earlier owner, apologize for the man disturbs Ian, but he can’t do anything. After that he finds out that it was the Man’s daugther and son-in-law. Then the Man tells that they won’t have anything to do with him, and his x-wife eider. Ian is not confident with the situation at all, but tries to ignore what he feels, and tries to be polite.
