Abstract

With starting-point in the movie and novel “The Silence of the Lambs”, this paper is about the problems there is when you adapt an already existing novel into a movie. A novel and a movie each separately have some distributes and disadvantages. To analyze the movie, it is important not to ignore the fact that it was build on a novel, so by analyzing both of the Medias, and compare them to each other, you’re able to draw some parallels and emphasize similarities and differences. In the end, you’re able to analyze why something was edited out of the story, why it was change or why it is completely faithful to the book.

By illustrating the devices the film using on illustrating the book, I’ve analyzed a quotation of the movie.

In the end I put the paper into perspective by comparing “The Silence of the Lambs” movie with other adaptations by same director, Jonathan Demme. In this paper I use “Philadelphia”, which is also critical about the American society in the end 1980’s to the beginning of the 1990’s.
