When big bang or god made the planet, and Adam and Eve was alive, the world was a paradise. They betrayed the calmness and rules of god, and they were punished with the tough live of reality. Yet no one respects and admire that moral. From 1968 – 1998 Ireland was going through a conflict between the Catholics and the Protestants, also known as ‘The Troubles’. Basically, the overall conflict was about whether Northern Ireland should remain a part of the Republic of Ireland or become a part of Great Britain. In the novel “Lies of Silence” by the famous writer Brian Moore, we get into the conflict and see the perspective almost from the inside.

The novels main character is Michael Dillon, who is the manager at a hotel in central Belfast. Michael lives a normal life nearby with his wife Moira Dillon. All though, Michael does have an affair with the younger girl, Andrea, who was a guest at his hotel a few years earlier than the present, in the novel. One day everything changes, for the married couple. They suddenly are being held hostages, in their own home, by masked men, who turns out to be members of the IRA, also known as the Irish Republican Army. The IRA men gives him an ultimatum, where he must drive his car to the hotel he works at, with a bomb in at, and walk straight away to safe his wife. So, either his wife dies, or he sacrifices the many lives of innocent peoples at the hotel.
