In the years and decades following her death, Monroe has often been cited as a pop and cultural icon. In February 1953, Marilyn was named the “The Most Advertised Girl in the world” by the advertising Association of the West. And in 1947 she was crowned Miss California Artichoke Queen. In 1956 she was nominated for the British Academy Award for “best Actress. In 1999, Marilyn was voted the sexiest Women of the Century by People Magazine.
