Marilyn Monroe Marilyn Monroe was and still is, a well known icon for many women all over the world. She was born the 1st June 1926 at the Los Angeles County Hospital with the name, Norma Jeane Mortenson. Norma’s mother was mentally ill, and that resulted in a rough childhood. Because her mother couldn’t take care of her, she lived with several family members, friends and frequently stayed in orphanages. When Norma Jeane was 16 years old, a friend of the family proposed to her so she didn’t have to go to any orphanages ever again, and they got married
