What is Fencing?Fencing is a sport where two competitors fight using 'Rapier-style' swords. Each fencer attempts to touch the other with the tip of his sword to score touches. And you have to avoid being hit yourself.
RulesFencing competitors must wear the necessary equipment. They must wear a face mask, a fencing jacket, a pair of fencing pants to protect the legs, and a fencing glove that covers the sleeve on the sword arm. the competitors will be checked before each bout, to make sure the equipment reaches all safety standards.
Fencing use a simple scoring system. Each time a fencer touches his opponent with his weapon he gets a point. Fencing bouts are timed: the clock is started every time the referee calls "Fence" and stopped every time he/she calls "Halt!". To win the game the fencer must either be the first to score 15 points or whoever has the most hits after three rounds.
Weaponsthere are three types of weapons used in modern fencing: foil, epee and sabre. Each weapon has its own rules and strategies.
The foil is the most well-known form of fencing. The object is to score by hitting the opponent with the tip of the blade, not the side of the blade that does not count in foil, only in sabre where the fencer can use the entire blade to score.
