The article ”The End of Men” focuses on the fact that women have become “the majority in the workforce for the first time in U.S. history” It is an article written by Hanna Rosin in July/August 2010 and through the text Rosin comments on several cases in relation to the development while she asks: “Is modern postindustrial society better suited to women?”.
The article begins by introducing the reader to the topic. For several years equality has been discussed in many western countries and women have fought for their rights but now it seems like things have changed and Rosin mentions that “for every two men who get a college degree this year, three women will do the same.” – Which is an indication that women will be dominating the U.S. economy in the near future.
Rosin has interviewed the biologist Ronald Ericsson who “Came up with a way to separate sperm carrying the male-producing Y chromosome from those carrying the X” – in other words: now you could choose to have a boy. Apparently Ericsson was a man-chauvinist while he participated in a Marlboro Country ad on his ranch with the slogan: “He’s the boss”. This was in 1979, but today he seems a little more humble while being interviewed by Hanna Rosin: “It’s the women who are driving all the decisions”
