The short story Abduction is written by Shelagh Delaney. It starts with an abrupt initiation also called in medias res in Latin. It can be a little bit hard, difficult and complicated to understand what kind of narrator it is because it is in my view, both first and third person narrator, who is omniscient, so of course the narrator has a very good overview about the persons and their characters, thoughts and actions.
The narrator tells the truth about a woman, sister and mother who abducts the life of her brother and destroys it totally. The story is about three siblings and the relationship between siblings, parents, children and family culture. Ann is the most important character, “the main person”. It is easy to understand that Ann is a middle child. She has a little brother and takes very care of him, and she also takes him with her to London.
The narrator, an older brother introduces and describes Ann as a clever, independent woman with trust in her selves and her abilities, and she is mentally strong. She lives in London and works as a doctor. In her own mind, her life is almost perfect seen from her own perspective. In the beginning, her little brother is a teenager without planning, structure or organization around his life.He is not a person who takes responsibility, and it leads to becoming unemployed, start drinking, and he does not fits into Ann's luxury life.
