This is one of the best and saddest books that I have ever read. There are so many terrible things out there that are happening to good people and this little boy called Dave Pelzer. One never knows what is going on behind closed doors. I am so lucky not to have experienced anything like this growing up. There is so much reality in this book, but I never knew that reality was ever this horrifying. The things this mother does to his child it just gives me tears in my eyes. It brought me the truth that I have never known before. It is extremely sad that something like this really did happen to such a sweet little boy. A Child Called”It”: One Child’s Courage to Survive, is a story based on a little boy’s troubles with his mother’s shocking behavior. The first part of Dave's life was idyllic in his memory. He says his family was a family like no other that included a loving mother and father. He enjoyed wonderful holidays and a happy trip to the Russian River. Everyone on the outside thought that David’s family was perfect. No one in their neighborhood would have suspected anything was wrong. From one day to another, his mother changed behavior, from being a loving and careful mother to a hateful and insane mother who only saw Dave as an obstacle for her happiness. Dave hat two older brothers, which the mother didn’t treat bad in any way. Her misery was only Dave’s fault. I can tell some of the most horrible things the mother did to her young son. In six years Dave lived in what he calls hell. In these six years he had the same clothes on every single day, so there was a lot of holes in it, it smelled a lot, his mother never washed it so his class in school called him Smelly-Pelzer. He always got the same food in school, and there were only leftovers from his brothers from the day before, so he started to steal food from the younger students on his school just to stay alive. In few months he wasn’t caught but suddenly the principal found out about it and they called his mother. That ended up in a good trashing when he got home. Soon his mother found out that every time she punished him with punches, then he won the fights. So she started bring in more cruel methods to punish him with. She had turn on the low heat and made him sit on the glowing jet. Another time she actually stabbed him with a knife. She was drunk and started gesticulate with her arms, still with the knife in her hand, and suddenly Dave could feel he became weaker, and his vision became darker and he fainted.
