Nelson Mandela was born 18th July 1918. He was born on a farm in a little town called “Qunu”, which is a small tribe in a region called “Transkei”, where he also grew up with his mom, dad and 12 brothers and sisters. When Mandela was 7 he was the first boy in his family to go to school, where his teacher gave him the name “Nelson”. When Mandela was nine his father died of tuberculosis. In a age of 16 Mandela went Clarkebury Boarding Institute, where he was reading about culture from other countries. He got his junior exam in 2 years (normally takes 3 years). Mandelas political career started in 1942, where he joined the African National Congress (ANC), and started to fight for the rights of the black people, in 1948 where apartheid got in place under the new South-African president Dr. Malan. The ANC was fighting against the Apartheid by doing sabotage and breaking the rules of the race-seperation. Mandela was hunted by the police for a long time, since they wanted to put him in custody because he was the leader of the African National Congress, and he was the head behind all the ANC actions against the apartheid. In august 1962 Mandela was arrested for illegally travelling out of the country. The police found weapons and other illegal stuff in Mandelas apartment. He got charged for all that + fighting against the rules of the apartheid. He was put to jail for 5 years, but in 1964 they increased his judgement to lifetime. He had to spend his years in the prison “Robben Island”, which was a little island, only build to prisoners. After 27 years Nelson Mandela was relased by the new presiden F.W Clerk, which also gave him the “Nobels Freedomprice”.
