The story point of departure is teenagers nowadays. In the story we follow a young girl who tells us about her expectations and her goals.

The narrator is a girl and she is 12 years old. This tells us that she is a teenager and that reflects to her way of thinking. When you are a teenager you think about the signals you are sending to your circle. Others opinion is very important and you don’t want people to think that you are a looser. When you are a teenage girl you always have some role models and want to be like them. That is why appearance is so important to the narrator she want to be special and famous like all the people she admires. She is very superficial because she thinks about the way she looks. And she will sacrifice everything to look good. (Page 3, ll 97-98) I’ve ordered a new nose and I’m saving my pocket money for that boob job. The narrator wants to be a grown up. And the development is going too fast, she won’t let nature take its course. And this is obvious in the story because the narrator says that time is her biggest enemy (p3, ll 91- 92)’’ but time is always the enemy. In a few years I’ll be too old for beaches, where youth and freshness are the first and most important requirement.’’ I also find the narrator very afraid. She is afraid of becoming something she does not want to be, NORMAL. Her appearance makes her feel special and different, and that is what she wants to feel like. I find that quite understandable because when you are at her age you want to be special you want everybody’s attention, and that is what she gets when she her appearance is good.
