Lucy is a teenage girl, with all the problems that comes with that. She is caught between two worlds; the traditional one which contains her mom and family, the new one with her school friends together with the kind of social order that are predominating that world. Lucy is the perfect “geek”; she is a good Christian, is always doing what her mom tells her to do, or at least she wants to. She is a straight a-student always doing what the teachers aspire her to do. The thing that is so special about her though is that she hangs out with a girl named Bethan, she is what popularly is called bad influence. Lucy is looking for some kind of security because suddenly she does not feel that it is enough just being a “geek” and she needs this sense of being needed and being a part of something. In her head she knows that it is wrong, nevertheless she does it so that she is a part of something. Even though she is ashamed she is lying to the teacher about her friendship with Bethan due to her embarrassment of hanging out with her.
Bethan is the school’s tough girl. Everybody looks up to her, including Lucy. Bethan is very insecure about herself; she might has problems at home and she tries not to appear weak or vulnerable which results in a development of a hard core around her and she tries to bring her peers mentally and physically down so that she can feel superior to them. Bethan is weak inside hence she finds weak friends that she can push around as she wishes. Given that Bethan is weak she always seeks a way to gain control over the environments, and the easiest way to fulfill that is by violence, harshness, rebellion and disrespect towards authority.
