The story was about a girl, named Alison. She was 15 years old. All her friend was really fashionable and she wasn’t. Her greatest desire was to get money, so she could buy all the latest styles, but her parents wouldn’t give her any money. When she talked about clothes and make-up, they just said “You look perfectly alright as you are.” Her father was so old fashioned. When he was young he didn’t have time for girls, not until he went to college. Clothes was not interesting for him, and he didn’t care how he looked . Alison’s mother a bit more sympathetic, but she didn’t say anything. Alison talked with her best friend’s mother, she understood her. Sometimes Alison wished, she was her own mother. When she was young, she spent every spare penny on clothes and make-up. Alison got an idea. If her parents wouldn’t give her any money, she would go out and earn it herself. She was going to ask around to see if there were any jobs going. Alison said to her parents that she would spend the day with a friend, but instead she went out, and got a job in the shoe department. She had to tell her parents about the job, and she did it at dinner time. Her father got really angry, and shouted across the table at her. He wouldn’t let her. He stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind him.
