I chose this topic because I found it very interesting. And after we saw the film “Bowling for Columbine” by Michael Moore, I was very sure that this was the topic I wanted to talk about for my exam.
In the late 1990s it seemed like an epidemic had hit American schools. Children were acquiring guns and booms, and then went to school to kill their classmates and teachers.
I’ve made a time line over some of the most “famous” school shootings.
Time line
January 1979 – Brenda Ann Spencer, 17 got a rifle for Christmas and used it to shoot into an elementary school across the street, from her home I San Diego. Eight children and a police officer were injured, and two men lost their lives protecting the children. When Brenda late were ask, why she did it, she only responded “I don’t like Mondays”. This sentence inspired I group called the Boom Town Rats.
April 2002 - Erfurt, Germany. An expelled student shot and killed 18 people. 14 teachers, 2 student, 1 police officer and at last, himself. No one knows why he did it, but there is a theory that say, it was because he got expelled just before the exam, and he just went mad.
