The Aborigines was not treated well. When the white people came along, they took the land from the Aborigines – the white mann believed it was a no people land. The white people believed that they had discovered the land and they did not care about the aborigines. The voyage of discovery did also bring unknown diseases to the country. The white people was not interested in understanding the aboriginal’s culture and lifestyle. Later in the history the aboriginals were only allowed to keep a part of the money they have earned. The rest was put into a bank account by the police. So they did not have much money to provide for their families. So they were treated like second-class citizens.
The bad treatment of the aborigines went on for a long time. But as the years passed, the aboriginals had more and more effect on the society. And at last - in 1967 - the aborigines got the right to vote. A small step toward not be treated like second-class citizens.
The girls survive by their instinct and feeling. They have the courage and desire to keep going no matter what, and that is an important factor in the harsh terrain. Their skin color is also a fact to be happy about because of the vigorous sun. The oldest girl Molly, also knows more about the nature and what it takes to survive. Before the white people came the aboriginals lived in families with about 25 people together in the free and moved from place to place to find food. They would collect nuts and fruit to eat. Perhaps Molly has learnt something from her ancestors.
