On January 19 1996, Joshua “jojo” White were shot by a confused stranger, returning home from school with some friend, shot. His last words were “peace brother, One Love”. His killer escaped, and is still at large.
His parents do not think, the attacker was the only reason why Joshua was shot. They think it was the system there killed Joshua.
Joshua was born and raised in San Francisco, attending public schools. He grew to the love the city for its progressiveness and its diversity. Joshua had a passion for sports, especially basketball, he played in almost every field he could, gym, and playground in the city. He enjoyed his job with friends and was concerned with the effects that violence, fascism and poverty had on them.
His experiences on the playground and in the classroom motivated him to political action.
Jojo was killed by the same social system he was trying to change; a system that takes food, music, health and recreation programs from school children programs from school children so that wealthy corporate executives and stockholders can pay fewer taxes. It’s a system that denies social services to the homeless and the working poor. It’s a system that is responsible for many more crimes than death of Joshua.
