'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' og 'Circus Lady', analyse

Summary of ”What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” which is a movie from 1993.The movie takes place in a little town/village called Endora. Gilbert Grape is an ordinary man who takes care of his family after his father hung himself a couple of years ago. Since then Gilbert has taken care of his family. He works in a small grocery where he delivers the groceries to the costumers. Gilbert usually looks after his retarded brother Arnie both at work and in his spare time, because his obese mother Bonnie can’t move from the couch. Gilbert also fixes the house that his father build. Arnie likes to climb. Sometimes he climbs in trees’, but sometimes he also climbs in a tower, which is very high. It always ends with the police is coming and Arnie must swear to never do it again. Gilbert also has two sisters. They help to make dinner and clean the house. Gilbert Grape has no girlfriend, but he is “fooling” around with a married woman, Betty Carver, until one day when he meets a new girl. The girl’s name is Becky. She travels around in a camper van with her grandmother, and one day the camper van breaks down in Endora. Becky and Gilbert like each other and soon the start dating. Becky is so happy, and she soon wants to meet Gilbert’s mother. But Gilbert doesn’t want Becky to meet his mother. He describes his mother as a fat whale among many other descriptions. But finally Becky gets to meet her, at Arnie’s 18 years birthday. The day Becky meets Bonnie, is also the obese mother dies. Bonnie dies after she walks up the stair. The Grape family doesn’t want people to make a joke out of their dead mother, so they burn the house down with Bonnie inside of it.
