The essay called The Somebody is about a boy. He calls himself, Chato De Shamrock. Chato is from the east side in the old L.A. The day that he is writing about is a special day for him. It is the day where he quits school, to be a writer. He doesn’t want to be a usual writer; he just walks around, writing his name on buildings and fences. Well, not the name that he was given from his father, he wants no part of him, but his artist name: Chato De Shamrock, which means Cat face in Mexican. It is his artist name because he looks like a cat, with his flat nose. He is also Mexican, and that is why he wanted his name to be Mexican too. Chato is a proud young man, and he is not ashamed of who he is. After he has written Chato, he writes De Shamrock, which is the street where he lived, and also the name of the gang he once belonged to. Unfortunately the rest of the gang members are all gone. Most of them were gone, because their families had to move away. One of them, Gorilla, was in jail and the last one, Blackie, joined the navy. But he still sees himself as a member of the gang.
